Verity will be giving the first interview on behlaf of Moving Bodies this Monday for Xtreme East Radio - see the XTREME MOVING BODIES EVENT PAGE on facebook for follow up etc.. This will also be mentioned in the interview so listeners can respond.
In the meantime, it might be nice to help out Verity with some ideas - what type of things to discuss and how to represent us at a group.
I guess initially my thoughts would be to emphasise the task set by the univeristy - the sites and the title of Moving Bodies, our brainstorming and exploration of those sites and how they became enriched by work with Chris Goode, Simon Vincenzi and Krischer and Panos. The concept of the liminal was of course discussed by Chris, who cited Turner and discussed the topic extensively in his essay, The Forest and the Field. Vincenzi's work, of which we took the physical angle after having seen the Troupe Mabuse piece, is beginning to influence us now as we put theory aside in favour of moving. This was something encouraged by Krischer and Panos also, to not be afraid of theory but equally to not feel that each and every audience member must understand our theories; sometimes art can be pleasurable as art in and of itself.
Perhaps this last part brings us to our structure, which is currently a mixed bag of genres tied around the rites of passage - there is evidently a theory but an audience will not be subsumed within this to the extent where the event is no longer enjoyable. Maybe this is the time to bring in personal interests also; I'd say if I were you Verity, your interests in digital, voice and costumes as these will no doubt influence the piece and are also easy for you to discuss as they are your passions. Perhaps you could also mention that the mixed genre and cabaret idea appeals to Leah and Louise and that with such diverse ideas in the group this justifies why the mixed genre idea is appealing.
Perhaps the final thing which may be mentioned - as you will no doubt discuss the commission and history of the group, personal interests and work to date - will be where we are headed next. I think we have some strong ideas on this also which should be easy enough to discuss after our meetings this week - work on the Poltergeist and how this links back to the TV concept you are working on currently, the Vincenzi work and our experiments at the end of Thursday, and perhaps mention Kletzmer also and where this may take us..
Hope thats of some use, does anyone else have any contributions?
