Week one documentation by Verity
Moving Bodies – Discussions & Ideas
Week One
Meeting 1 – 6-7pm Thu 15th October – Boiler Room
• Initial Idea – Make performance about making a piece for next week.
• And about the fact that we don’t know anything about each other
• Experiment – 24 hours together?! Drinking? Dancing? Filming ourselves hungover?
• Choreograph a dance and film it, 5 women?
• Techniques of documenting, camera techniques
Chris Goode’s points:
• A smearing of the ideas of the matrix, can this be done in the live?
• Editing reminds you that there is an artifice being constructed
• We don’t live narrative
• Re-make the Matthew Clarke film in a parallel application to our political concerns, NOW.
Meeting 2 – 10-1pm Tue 20th October – Roasters Coffee Shop
• Misunderstanding with what we are to do with our clips. Do we use them as a platform for what we present, or do we actually present them?
• Leah’s suggestion about the Radio platform with Whitechapel Gallery. ‘Sonic Stream’ ‘Extreme East Radio.’
• Difficult to find group focus – ideas and themes seem to be la bit lost! Technical issues surrounding video editing arise.
• Louise will make soundtrack for presentation
Presentation Day Thu 22nd October – Bolier Room
On the whole the work was quite abstract. Although Verity and Andrea felt unhappy with the work that was presented, Leah and others seemed more positive about the work as a response. The work still adhered to the criteria although it was certainly different from the other groups’. Upon reflection we realise that there has been minor teething problems. It has proved quite difficult to organise a meeting schedule. When we have met the discourse has not been as focused as it could be. That being said in the first of week two’s meeting we seem more focused and have worked better as a group in getting ideas off the ground through discussion..
